Abstract

Objective: To describe the knowledge of nurses working in habitual risk prenatal care about the birth plan in a municipality in the state of Pará located on the banks of the Tocantins River. Methods: The study is descriptive and exploratory under a qualitative approach. Based on a field research with data collection interposed by semi-structured interviews and Bardin's content analysis through three stages (pre-analysis, exploration of the material and treatment of the results and interpretation), through these analyses, two thematic classes were highlighted: Professionals' perception of the birth plan and approach to the birth plan in professional practice. Results: They indicate that the interviewees have fragile knowledge and do not clearly describe the document. However, some professionals are aware of the importance of using the plan. Conclusion: it was found that the working professionals have a minimal knowledge about the document, they emphasize the lack of training and that it is not the reality of the municipality. In view of this, it is clear that the Birth Plan is not used as recommended by the World Health Organization.
