Abstract
Objective: To analyze and synthesize the evidence available in the literature on the impact of advanced technological devices on self-care and monitoring of ostomy patients. Methods: This is an integrative review, carried out in the EMBASE, PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases, using the following descriptors: “ostomy”, “colostomy”, “ileostomy”, “abdominal stoma”, “information systems”, “e-health”, “wearable electronic devices” and “mobile applications”. Studies published between 2018 and 2023 that evaluated the application of information technologies specifically designed for individuals living with intestinal ostomies were included. Results: Eight articles made up the final sample of this study, with a greater frequency of pilot studies (n: 02). Technological interventions such as wearable sensors, mobile apps, chatbots and AI algorithms for ostomates were examined. The studies indicated improvements in quality of life, psychosocial adjustment and management of complications, despite facing challenges such as accuracy and usability of technologies. Final considerations: This review highlighted the significant potential of advanced technological devices in the care of ostomized patients, improving quality of life and self-care. Despite advances, challenges such as precision and adaptation of technologies to different clinical conditions remain.
