Abstract
Objective: To analyze the impacts of sleep deprivation on the onset of mental disorders and the exacerbation of prevalent cases. Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted to answer the question: "What are the consequences of sleep deprivation for mental health?" through research on the online databases MEDLINE, LILACS, SCIELO, Scopus, and Webscience linked to PUBMED and BVS. Studies and theses in English and Portuguese published from 2018 to 2023 were filtered using descriptors such as "Sleep," "Sleep Deprivation," "Sleep Quality," "Mental Health," "Mental Disorders," "Depression," "Anxiety," and "Social Conditions”, using the boolean operators "AND" and "OR." Results: 20 articles met the inclusion criteria and were not excluded, all of which explicitly stated that sleep deprivation negatively influences mental health. Final considerations: From the gathered information, it was possible to delimit and facilitate the identification of profiles more prone to the malevolent relationship between lack of sleep and psychological damage, encouraging the development of new studies that delve into the biological mechanisms of the topic.
