Abstract

Objective: To analyze the causes and consequences of teenage pregnancy and the role of Primary Health Care (PHC) in understanding these factors for effective prevention. Methods: An integrative literature review in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Acervo+ Index Base and PubMEd databases using the keywords Adolescence AND Pregnancy, where 7 articles were selected according to the criteria of pre-established inclusion and exclusion. Graphs and tables were made for a better understanding of the selection of articles for analysis. Results: The articles converge in addressing the causes, consequences and prevention of teenage pregnancy, with socioeconomic and psychosocial factors being the main causes of this problem. Furthermore, it was possible to infer, through the articles, the importance of PHC as a preventive agent. With this, an accurate study of the literature chosen in the last five years for analysis was carried out. Final considerations: The reduction in teenage pregnancy rates will only be achieved when there is collaborative support among social agents so that adolescents have better prospects and opportunities.
