Abstract
Objective: To analyze the sociodemographic characteristics of women with pregnancies resulting from sexual violence, pregnancy outcomes, and factors associated with legal abortion. Methods: Cross-sectional study with a sample of 150 women with pregnancies resulting from sexual violence treated at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Maranhão in 2019, 2020, and 2021. The study variables were analyzed according to whether or not to perform an abortion and the factors related to the decision. The data were analyzed in Epi Info, version 7.2.3.1., using Student's t test and Chi-square, considering p<0.05 statistically significant. Results: There was an association between lower average age (15.7±5.5 years versus 20.2±6.8 years), low education (72.3% with incomplete primary education) and close aggressors (87.4%). with no legal interruption. The recurrence of rape is predominant in the group that chose to maintain the pregnancy (p 0.001). Conclusion: Younger women, low education, recurrent rapes, relationships with the aggressors, seem to be related to the non-interruption of pregnancy resulting from sexual violence. The findings highlight the social vulnerability of early pregnancy in children and adolescents and the impacts and risks involving the young pregnant woman, her child and the future of both.
