Abstract
Objective: To describe the case of a child with Chronic Osteomyelitis in the Mandible, a rare disease that presents with periods of exacerbation and requires long treatment, in addition to being a diagnostic challenge for pediatricians and pediatric dentists. The condition may present with facial asymmetry, pain, physical and psychological disorders to the patient, especially in childhood. Case details: She required prolonged use of antibiotics, as well as surgical interventions, until the final diagnosis of Diffuse Sclerosing Osteomyelitis (DSO), in association with a Chronic Tendoperiostitis. With multi-professional care, which is still in progress, the patient is clinically stable with conservative treatment based on painkillers and anti-inflammatories. Final considerations: The diagnosis and treatment of chronic osteomyelitis of the jaw are challenging for healthcare professionals. This paper reports on a successful experience in which the patient had significant clinical improvement and is being followed up to control the disease.
