Abstract

Objective: To identify the challenges faced by leprosy patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The study is an integrative review, for which a survey of articles in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and PubMed databases was carried out. The descriptors and combinations used were: (LEPRA) AND (COVID-19), (LEPRA) AND (COVD-19) AND (PANDEMIC), (LEPRA) AND (PANDEMIC), (LEPRA) AND (COVID-19), (LEPRA) AND (PANDEMIC), (LEPRA) AND (COVID-19) AND (PANDEMIC). Articles were included that discussed leprosy and the outcome of the disease in the population during the pandemic period, free of charge, in all languages, published since the beginning of the spread of COVID-19, from 2019 to 2022. Results: The health system was reorganized to try to contain the spread of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This fact led to a decrease in the number of professionals available for leprosy sectors in health units, lack of medication, inadequate diagnosis and psychological problems for individuals, with underreporting of cases in several places, such as Brazil. Conclusion: It is suggested professional training in the management of patients with leprosy and the use of this study to outline plans aimed at improving public health programs so that they are not seriously affected by external factors.
