Abstract
Objective: Aims to analyze the involvement of pediatric gastroenteritis by this virus. Methods: This is an integrative literature review based on the question: “Is the incidence of gastroenteritis due to norovirus prevalent in children?”, to be carried out using the LILACS and PubMed databases. The descriptors applied were: “Gastroenteritis”, “norovirus” and “children”, combined with the Boolean operator (AND). Results: 11 articles were used to develop the literature review, the main aspects related to childhood gastroenteritis and its involvement by norovirus: viral transmissibility, infected target audience, characteristics of the virus, its main effects on the body, as well as the development of a vaccine. Final considerations: The socio-economic and hygienic aspects of the population act as facilitators for norovirus infection (genotypes I and II), which is the main causative agent of pediatric gastroenteritis worldwide. In Brazil, in addition to the precarious living conditions of many individuals, there is low reporting of infection by this virus, primarily done only in cases of hospitalization. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen epidemiological surveillance to reduce the incidence of the disease.
