Abstract
Objective: To comprehensively analyze available evidence on anterior open bite treatment with orthodontic aligners. Methods: A search strategy was applied in PubMed, with terms associated with “Clear Aligners AND Open Bite”, in order to carry out an integrative review on the topic. Filters were applied for publications with full text and with a publication date within the last 5 years. The selection of articles took place based on titles, abstracts or full text. The data collected were respectively: authors, year of publication, study design, main objective and conclusion. Results: Initially, 275 articles were found. Of these, only 41 were published in the last five years and 38 had the full text. After analysis, 10 articles were included in this integrative review. Orthodontic aligners corrected the anterior open bite through movements of molar intrusion, incisor extrusion and retraction, counterclockwise mandibular rotation and decreased facial height. Mini-implants, mini-plates, vertical elastics, optimized attachments, micro-osteoperforations and high-frequency vibration were used to optimize movement. Final considerations: Based on the studies included, it appears to be possible to treat anterior open bite with orthodontic aligners, especially for mild and moderate cases.
