Abstract

Objective: Describe, through scientific literature, the main care issues related to palliative care in neonatology. Bibliographical review: It was evident in the literature that recommending patients for palliative care in neonatology still represents challenges for health professionals. This indication must be evaluated by a multidisciplinary team, preferably using instruments. The therapeutic plan for these patients must be personalized care, aiming to improve the quality of life of the patient and their family, highlighting the need for institutional protocols and a multidisciplinary team to achieve this. Care management for these patients must always include the family and in a documented and communicated manner. The patient's signs and symptoms must be taken into account to carry out appropriate management. Final considerations: Palliative care in neonatology is still considered challenging for both health professionals and families and the community. It is essential that health services direct professionals so that it is possible to offer a better quality of palliative care for newborns and their families.
