Abstract
Objective: To identify factors that interfere with exclusive breastfeeding and measures that can alleviate the problem in a social and physiological context, on a public health scale. Methods: This is an observational, qualitative and transversal literature review. The search was carried out in the PubMed and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases, using the descriptors “breast feeding” and “prenatal education” and “milk, human”. The eligibility of articles will correspond to those that are part of the theme. Studies outside the period from 2019 to 2023, as well as literature reviews, will be discarded. Results: Eleven publications were selected, which highlighted the absence of information during prenatal care, socioeconomic conditions, family influence, mental health, and maternal insecurity as the main factors that can interfere with breastfeeding. Final considerations: Therefore, the lack of guidance regarding EBF, maternal psychological and socioeconomic factors and the use of substances influence the reduction in breastfeeding, which generates consequences for the mother and child. This can be resolved by demystifying beliefs about breastfeeding, presenting positive information in addition to identifying maternal rights and duties.
