Abstract

Objective: To analyze the clinical profile of leprosy in the territory of Teresina, in the state of Piauí and in Brazil, from 2013 to 2022. Methods: This is an epidemiological, quantitative, population-based study on the analysis of leprosy cases. The data search was carried out through the Notifiable Diseases Information System - SINAN. Results: 328,356 cases of leprosy were reported in Brazil, 32,835.6 cases/year. Of these, around 140,541 were registered in the Northeast Region, with 11,585 cases reported in Piauí, with 1,158.5 annual notifications and 4,410 occurrences in the city of Teresina, with 441 cases per year. It was found that the Dimorpha clinical form was predominant in Brazil, with 158,238 (48.2%) occurrences, followed by the Virchowian form (18.0%). In Piauí, the majority of leprosy cases were classified as Dimorphous, 5,006 (43.2%) cases, and undetermined, 1,896 (16.4%) occurrences. In Teresina, the Dimorpha forms (48.4%) and Virchowiana (16.2%) also stood out. Conclusion: Regarding the clinical profile of the disease, the main form of clinical presentation is Dimorpha, both in Brazil, Piauí and Teresina. These data can contribute to understanding Leprosy in the country, and direct health promotion, prevention and rehabilitation actions.
