Abstract

Objective: Understand the benefits of using SGLT2 inhibitors for HFeEF in diabetic patients. Methods: The referred integrative review of literature intended to respond to the following problem: “What are the advantages of the use of SGLT2 inhibitors for HFpEF in diabetic patients?”. Search on PubMed, VHS and BVS search platforms was done, through the descriptors in English “Gliflozins”, “Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction” and “Diabetes Mellitus”, taken from the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) and interspersed by the boolean operator “AND”. Studies between 2013-2023, in English and/or Portuguese, full article and chargeless were included, and those which deviated from the central theme were excluded. Results: 16 studies were approved, with diversity of clinical essays and literature reviews. The hospitalization of patients with T2DM and HFpEF was considerably reduced with gliflozins, given their heart-protectors mechanisms, existing less collateral effects. Superior highlights were attributed to empagliflozin, dapagliflozin and canagliflozin. Other SGLT2i need greater deepening. Final considerations: SGLT2i like empagliflozin and dapagliflozin reduce the complications of HFpEF and hospitalization in diabetic patients. It’s suggested governmental evaluation and research for their use in pre-diabetic and euglycemic patients. Gliflozins bring benefits mainly in combined therapy and lifestyle. Thus, their use might increase in the future.
