Abstract

Objective: To understand the experience of pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy who participated in breastfeeding interventions in a Family Health Strategy in a municipality in the state of Mato Grosso. Methods: This is an action research following a methodological, qualitative itinerary, composed of 6 pregnant women in the third trimester. In the exploratory phase: sociodemographic questionnaires were applied to collect personal and obstetric information, to assess the level of knowledge of pregnant women about breastfeeding and to survey educational demands about breastfeeding, through a semi-structured questionnaire. Health education was carried out in four weekly meetings prepared in the planning phase and for the collective evaluation phase a focus group was held, with a script consisting of four guiding questions. Results: It was possible to understand the perceptions of pregnant women in participating in educational activities that aimed to intervene in knowledge about breastfeeding and verify the importance of health professionals in prenatal care. There are several factors that can make women vulnerable and insecure when carrying out this practice. Conclusion: It is concluded that educational activities are crucial for women during the gestational period and that health professionals include the promotion of breastfeeding during prenatal care.
