Abstract
Objective: To summarize the main benign breast diseases, diagnosis and treatment. Bibliographic Review: Benign breast diseases make up a wide spectrum of anatomical or functional changes in the mammary gland, with 80 percent of breast lesions being benign. Benign breast diseases may be palpable or present only on imaging. The gynecologist must be attentive and know the flowchart for investigating changes in the breast. Skin lesions, tumor masses or nipple discharge must be investigated and the possibility of neoplasia must be excluded. Final considerations: The investigation of the finding of breast changes will be individualized according to the patient's age, risk factors, clinical findings and radiographic findings. Once the possibility of malignancy has been ruled out, the focus must be given to the treatment of the benign disease and guidance on monitoring the findings. It is essential that every professional involved in the care of patients with breast signs or symptoms knows the appropriate flow for screening and monitoring of these lesions.
