Abstract

Objective: To evaluate clinical skills in the diagnosis and management of anaphylaxis in medical students at the Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará. Methods: Analytical, quantitative, observational and cross-sectional study, which consisted of three phases: document analysis of the Course Pedagogical Project (PPC); preparation of a research protocol and OSCE practice station, included in the semester evaluations of the 10th and 11th semesters of 2020 and 2021; and analysis of evaluation forms, totaling 79 forms collected. Results: The majority (78%) correctly identified the clinical case of the practice station as anaphylaxis. Only 44% of those assessed in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, got the diagnosis right. When assessing the systems affected, the most cited were: respiratory (97%), cardiovascular (84%) and skin (71%) and the least: gastrointestinal (49%) and neurological (33%). As for management, 98% indicated adrenaline as their first choice medication. Conclusion: Although 72% of the students achieved satisfactory performance, the uncertainties of the pandemic may have negatively affected the acquisition of skills studied. As an educational product, a checklist was created for training clinical skills in anaphylaxis, with an impact linked to the prevention of health problems, since raising awareness and training professionals on the subject is the only way to avoid fatal outcomes.
