Abstract

Objective: To identify the level of occupational stress faced by professionals working in Intensive Care Units and to classify organizational stressors, relating them to their severity. Method: Cross-sectional observational study with a qualiquantitative approach conducted in Intensive Care Units of a hospital in Paraná with the multiprofessional team. The shortened version of the Work Stress Scale (WSS) and a semi-structured questionnaire were applied. Quantitative analysis was performed with data collected in Excel and analyzed via SPSS, while qualitative analysis was based on the Bardin method to identify stressors. Results: Contrary to the literature, the majority of professionals presented low stress levels. It was also identified that professionals with multiple employment contracts tend to have a higher level of stress. Factors such as communication and interpersonal relationships were relevant as stress triggers in this environment. Conclusion: The study highlights the complexity of occupational stress and the need for research on the topic, as it directly impacts the employee and also the employing company.
