Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effects of using antiretrovirals (ARV) from the Protease Inhibitors (PI) class on lipid metabolism in people over 50 years of age with HIV. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was carried out covering the period from 2017 to 2022, through the analysis of data from patients (n=35) treated by the Infectious Diseases Pharmacy of the Hospital Universitário de Santa Maria (HUSM), undergoing concomitant treatment for dyslipidemia (Atorvastatin and Gemfibrozil). This study was approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee (CAAE no. 60869822.9.0000.5346). Results: The majority of patients (38.47%) had a diagnosis time of between 10 and 15 years and high blood pressure was the most prevalent comorbidity. Darunavir is the PI used by most patients (60%), together with atorvastatin as a lipid-lowering agent. Regarding the lipid profile, men had higher triglyceride values (269.2±69.65) than women (181.87±16.05) and cholesterol values, its fractions and Castelli I Indices and II were similar for both sexes. Conclusion: Through these results it is possible to infer that patients have good adherence to treatments, and, consequently, a lower risk of developing complications related to HIV and the cardiovascular system.
