Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to carry out a clinical and epidemiological characterization of tuberculosis in pediatric age, in the state of Minas Gerais. Methods: The study aims to collect and analyze data obtained through the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) on tuberculosis in pediatric age in the state of Minas Gerais, between 2007 and 2018. Results: In the analyzes 1215 cases were considered, of which 90.43% came from urban areas, with 10 deaths due to tuberculosis and 32 related to other causes. With regard to the clinical form of tuberculosis, the predominance of the pulmonary form was noted, corresponding to 71.44% of the total notifications. Regarding the medications used in treatment, the use of Rifampicin stands out, indicated in 67.33 % of cases, Isoniazid, in 67.24%, Pyrazinamide, in 66.17%. Final considerations: Tuberculosis represents a challenge to public health in Brazil, especially to the pediatric population due to the non-specific clinical picture and the difficulty of diagnostic tests in this age group. This article will contribute to the development of public policies related to improving the informative quality of reported tuberculosis cases, tuberculosis management and disease prevention in the state of Minas Gerais.
