Abstract

Objective: To analyze the main scientific articles in the medical literature on the influence of gut microbiota and vitamin D on depression. Methods: Integrative literature review through searches, in the last 5 years (2019 – 2024), carried out in the databases: Scielo, PubMed, Latin American and Caribbean Literature (LILACS) and MEDLINE indexed in the Virtual Health Library (VHL). The following Boolean operators were used: “gut microbiota” AND “depression”, “vitamin D” AND “depression” and “gut microbiota” AND “vitamin D”. Results: The final sample was 26, all from PubMed, 13 articles addressed gut microbiota and depression, 8 articles on gut microbiota and vitamin D and 5 articles on vitamin D and depression. Final considerations: The research analyzed highlighted the complex relationship between gut microbiota and vitamin D in depression. Understanding the mechanisms that exist in this relationship offers new strategies for treating this debilitating disorder beyond emotional symptoms.
