Methods: This is an integrative review the last five years in databases such as PubMed and the Google Scholar search engine, referring to the use of herbal medicine in climacteric and menopause. Results: The articles reviewed highlight the lack of knowledge among health professionals with regard to phytotherapy and medicinal plants, on the other hand, some studies showed a relative knowledge of the population about herbal medicines to alleviate climacteric and menopausal symptoms, as some teachings are passed down from generation to generation. The use of isoflavones and other substances from plants are effective in reducing symptoms such as hot flashes, depression during menopause and also sexual dysfunction. Evidently, the use of these substances must be individualized since their use in patients with hormone-sensitive diseases such as breast cancer must be closely monitored for their effects on this patient profile. Final considerations: Phytotherapy offers a valuable and natural option for women during climacteric and menopause.
