Abstract
Objectives: To report a case of thyroid hemiagenesis in a healthy patient and to investigate the scientific literature related to this alteration. Case details: A 55-year-old female patient with left lobe agenesis, the most frequently reported in the literature, with records of ultrasound examinations and their respective reports. These tests were carried out due to a complaint of a dry cough and hoarseness two years previously, which was infrequent, but with which it was possible to identify the thyroid alteration. The few alterations found were two small benign nodules and an increase in the volume of the thyroid lobe. In terms of personal history, the recurrence of hemorrhagic events in both of the patient's pregnancies was noteworthy. Final considerations: This study is important because it describes a rare thyroid condition which is potentially underdiagnosed, but which is a risk factor for thyroid-related metabolic diseases. However, as this is a case study, the findings are not sufficient to make safe and broad inferences, which suggests more scientific evidence about this condition.
