Abstract
Objective: Understand the main advances in the treatment of Tourette Syndrome (TS), encompassing pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, in the last 5 years. Methods: This is an integrative review, carried out based on searches in databases Publisher Medline (PubMed), Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) e Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel System Online (MEDLINE), from 2018 to 2023, using descriptors “Tourette Syndrome ” and “treatment” and their translations into English, using the boolean operator AND. Results: 31 articles were selected to represent the final sample and compose the review, as they met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, in which pharmacotherapy, deep brain stimulation and behavioral therapy proved to be protagonists in the treatment of the syndrome. Final considerations: It was found that the drugs sodium valproate, tiapride and priavanserin and deep brain stimulation can be used to reduce motor symptoms, and that behavioral therapy is an effective and necessary tool to reduce the severity and control of tics.
