Abstract
Objective: To analyze the causal network of adolescents' knowledge about vaccination in the context of the spread of fake news. Methods: A quantitative study was carried out with 106 students from a federal public institution. Data was collected between November 2020 and January 2021 using an electronic form. The adolescents' knowledge of vaccination and ability to identify fake news were measured. Initially, a descriptive analysis of the variables was carried out, after which a causal model of knowledge was proposed, with the construction of two latent variables (sociodemographic profile and beliefs). The analysis was carried out using R software. Results: Adolescents' beliefs had a direct and significant effect on knowledge about vaccination (34.062); while the sociodemographic profile had a smaller and indirect effect (4.750). Adolescents who believe in the benefits and safety of vaccines, have parents with more schooling and a higher income, live in urban areas and use the Internet as their main source of information had a better knowledge score. Conclusion: The causal network was able to identify the factors that can influence adolescents' knowledge about vaccination and can help identify the main challenges, as well as allowing the development of more effective vaccination campaign strategies.
