Abstract

Objectives: Characterize and identify the main types of pharmaceutical interventions (PI) in the surgical clinic, demonstrate the profile of PIs and list the main medications involved. Methods: Cross-sectional, quantitative, descriptive and retrospective observational study, based on the analysis of secondary data. The sample included all PIs conducted during the established period. There was no distinction  by gender, age, or disease no PI were excluded. The data was analyzed using Microsoft Office Excel® 2021, applying descriptive statistics techniques, such as total frequency and temporal analysis of the mean, median and standard deviation. Results: There were 1,663 hospitalizations and 464 PIs were  identified, of which 95.3% were accepted and 4.7% were not accepted. The main PIs were infusion time (28.4%), dilution (18.3%), medication reconciliation (17.9%) and dosage (11%). The main class of drugs involved was the digestive and metabolic system (31.5%), nervous system (28.1%) and systemic anti-infectives (17.9%). Conclusion: In light of the results, a comprehensive understanding of pharmaceutical interventions in surgical clinics is evident, highlighting the crucial role of the clinical pharmacist in promoting patient safety and optimizing drug treatment.
