Abstract

Objective: Verify the influence of socioeconomic and environmental conditions on the appearance of congenital abnormalities in Roraima. Methods: Descriptive observational study based on data analysis from medical records and application of a questionnaire to pregnant women attended at the Centro de Referência de Saúde da Mulher from 2017 to 2019. Results: This work had a total of 127 participants, of which 28 had fetuses with some abnormality diagnosed. Most of them were under 30 years old, with an average of up to 12 years of schooling, housewife and family income of up to 3 minimum wages. Environmental conditions such as living close to the plantation area, raising large animals and burning as the destination for garbage showed a tendency to be associated with cases of malformations. Abnormalities of the nervous system, circulatory and musculoskeletal system were frequents. Two cases of Body-Stalk syndrome, considered a rare genetic anomaly, have also been reported. Conclusion: The results show that the unfavorable situations are associated with congenital malformations in Roraima, among which are pregnancy at a younger age, low family income, housewife, living in places close to the plantation area, near breeding large animals and in regions without public garbage collection.
