Abstract
Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of herbal medicines and medicinal plants in the adjuvant treatment of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Methods: This is an integrative review study conducted between February and March 2024. The set of information presented was examined and extracted from the following databases: Lilacs, PUBMED, and SciElo. Eight articles related to the main theme, the use of natural therapies and herbal medicine, were analyzed for the creation of this review. Results: Good adherence, efficiency, and continuity of the evaluated treatment were assessed. It was also noted the communicative failure between the doctor and the patient, an action that impacted the misuse of therapeutic resources. Furthermore, the efficiency of multidisciplinary adherence for an approach aimed at the patient's longevity as a whole was analyzed. Final considerations: It is understood that natural therapy, associated with primary treatment, can enhance hypoglycemic effects and increase systematic beneficial repercussions, potentiating conventional treatment, thus leading to an improvement in the patient's quality of life.
