Abstract

Objective: To analyze deaths from diseases of the digestive system in the state of Ceará, investigating the different health regions and sociodemographic characteristics from 2012 to 2022. Methods: This is a retrospective descriptive study with a quantitative approach, using secondary data from DATASUS. Deaths from diseases of the digestive system in all 22 health regions of Ceará were analyzed, considering variables such as gender, age, color/race and geographic region. The quantitative analysis was carried out using Excel spreadsheets, highlighting patterns over the years. Results: The results revealed a significant increase in deaths from diseases of the digestive system over the period, totaling 3,478 in 2022, representing a notable increase since 2012 (2,234). There was variation in mortality between health regions, showing heterogeneity in the distribution of these deaths. Conclusion: The research provides an in-depth understanding of the epidemiological trends of these diseases in the context of Ceará. The regional and sociodemographic disparities identified highlight the need for more targeted public health strategies.
