Abstract
Objective: Review the main studies in the medical literature that describe neurological manifestations related to COVID-19. The research will be a bibliographical review of narrative-type literature. Bibliographic review: Increasingly solid evidence demonstrates the multisystemic nature of COVID-19, which is caused by SARS-CoV-2, highlighting the most diverse neurological disorders that manifest in the form of syndromes (dementia, parkinsonian, epileptic, motor, amnesic, behavioral, among others). Furthermore, studies highlight the neurological manifestations with greater prevalence, such as headaches, vertigo, epileptic seizures, altered consciousness, ataxias and acute cerebrovascular disease, as well as diseases related to the peripheral nervous system (PNS) such as sensory disorders, deficits in taste, smell, vision and in addition to pain. Final considerations: Considering the neurological complications associated with COVID-19, it is essential to recognize that the SARS-CoV-2 virus not only affects the respiratory system but can also have significant impacts on the central and peripheral nervous system. Studies and clinical reports have documented a variety of neurological manifestations in patients with COVID-19, from mild symptoms, such as headache and dizziness, to more serious complications, such as encephalopathy, stroke, encephalitis and Guillain syndrome.
