Abstract

Objective: To analyze in the scientific literature the main barriers and needs related to the comprehensive approach to health for the LGBTQIA+ population. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, with articles published between 2017 and 2022, in Portuguese and English and with full text available. The guiding question was: What are the main barriers to access to comprehensive health services faced by the LGBTQIA+ population? The bibliographic searches were carried out in October 2023 in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and PubMed databases, using the following Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): Comprehensive health care; Sexual and gender minorities; Violence; through combinations using the Boolean operator "AND". Results: 11 articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, which reported on the difficulties in the comprehensive approach to health care for sexual and gender minorities. Final considerations: The prejudiced and stigmatizing view of institutions and health professionals in the care of the LGBTQIA+ population, based on a biologicist view, makes their specificities invisible and perpetuates barriers in the implementation of comprehensive and humanized care for these individuals.
