Abstract

Objective: To assess the epidemiology and temporal trend of Congenital Syphilis in the Northern region of Brazil from 2010 to 2019. Methods: This is a descriptive epidemiological, retrospective research with a quantitative approach, conducted in 2022, using data from SINAN and SINASC. Results: A total of 14,434 cases of congenital syphilis were recorded in the Northern Region, with the state of Pará standing out, followed by Amazonas and Tocantins. The data indicated maternal characteristics, showing that the majority were of reproductive age, followed by those who transitioned to adulthood. A large portion did not complete primary and secondary education, with the predominant ethnicity being mixed race, followed by white. Most diagnoses of syphilis during pregnancy occurred during prenatal care, with follow-up in 79.54% of cases, while only 34.68% of partners received treatment. Recent congenital syphilis was the most diagnosed type (99.73%) of cases of births up to incomplete 23 months. There was a significant increase in average annual incidence rates in several states and capitals of the region. Conclusion: The study will provide new insights that may contribute to the production of other studies related to congenital syphilis.
