Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the association between high nutritional risk by mNUTRIC and mortality in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Methods: This is a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study. Data were collected from the electronic medical record and a computerized database. The modified NUTRIC version was used, which disregards the variable interleukin-6 (IL-6) and participants with a Score greater than 5 points were classified as at high nutritional risk. 732 critically ill patients admitted to the ICU between 2017 and 2021 and with a hospital stay of more than 24 hours were included. Results: Cox Regression demonstrated that patients classified as low nutritional risk by the mNUTRIC Score had an average of 2.5 times greater survival (RR = 2.509; p < 0.01; 95% CI = 2.011 – 3.129). Logistic regression revealed that patients at high nutritional risk were 6 times more likely to die during hospitalization (HR = 5.986; p < 0.01; 95% CI = 4.329 – 8.277). Conclusion: It is concluded that high nutritional risk according to the mNUTRIC Score correctly predicts the risk of death and other unfavorable outcomes in critically ill patients.
