Abstract

Objective: To examine the different mechanisms related to neuroinflammation that are associated with the promotion of ASD. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, with articles published between 2019 and 2024, in Portuguese and English, with full text. The guiding question was used: How do neuroinflammatory mechanisms influence the manifestation of ASD? The work was carried out between January and April 2024, carrying out a bibliographic survey in the databases: PubMed National Institutes of Health, National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), MDPI, through Science and Health Descriptors (DECs): Neuroinflammation, Myelination, Microglia, Notch, Glial Cell, Microbiota, Maternal Immune Activation relating to Autism. Results: After analysis and application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 2562 works were located, with 2539 works being eliminated because they did not fit the proposed theme or did not fit the exclusion criteria, resulting in 25 articles as the final sample. Final considerations: It is important to study the neuroinflammatory process to develop therapeutic approaches, such as the use of anti-inflammatories, antioxidants, Notch pathway inhibitors to improve the quality of life of people with ASD.
