Abstract
Objective: To investigate the impacts of excessive use of social networks on the academic performance of university students. Bibliographic Review: It is observed that the neuroendocrine impact of social networks on academic behavior is related to the release of too much dopamine when excessively exposed to social networks, leading to compulsive behaviors and addiction. Furthermore, excessive use of social networks has been associated with difficulties in organizing time, a drop in academic performance and interference with sleep quality, negatively affecting concentration and absorption of content, in addition to psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression and technological dependence. , highlighting the importance of balanced approaches to promoting healthy sleep habits and conscious use of social media among university students. Final considerations: The results highlight an association between excessive use of social networks and several negative outcomes, from impacts on academic performance to effects on mental health. Therefore, it is crucial to implement strategies to balance the use of social networks, promote healthy sleeping habits and strengthen self-regulation and time management skills, aiming not only at academic success, but also at the well-being of university students.
