Abstract

Objective: To evaluate whether “trans-osseous equivalent” repair surgery of the supraspinatus tendon using knotless anchor systems is a cost-effective alternative in the Unified Health System. Methods: Static modeling was of the decision tree type. Effectiveness estimates were extracted from a cohort composed of thirty-eight patients undergoing rotator cuff surgery at a public orthopedic reference hospital who used knotless and knotted anchors. The costs of the interventions were estimated using the macro-costing technique. The time horizon was one hundred and twelve days and the analysis perspective was that of the Unified Health System at the local level. Results: The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was for joint functionality and recovered in the amount of R$ 3,941.00. Conclusion: The model results suggest that, depending on the manager's willingness to pay, rotator cuff repair using knotless anchors may be a more cost-effective alternative to the Unified Health System instead of rotator cuff repair using knotted anchors.
