Abstract
Objective: To highlight, in published and indexed scientific articles, the therapeutic itinerary in mental health of adolescents living in rural areas. Methods: This is an integrative review of articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish, freely available in full, from the VHL, CAPES Journal Portal and PUBMED/MEDLINE databases published between January 2017 and June 2022 that answered the guiding question: “Is there evidence of the therapeutic itinerary in mental health for adolescents living in rural areas?”. Results: The search strategies identified 2,050 studies, 884 in the VHL, 292 in Periódicos CAPES and 874 in Pubmed/MEDLINE, with a selection of 22 articles, which were tabulated and grouped in analytical table format. Three categories emerged from the thematic content analysis: “Adolescent mental health care policies and therapeutic itineraries followed”, “Adolescents in rural settlements – problems experienced and correlation with health” and “Settlements and health”. Final considerations: Therefore, regarding their therapeutic itinerary, new mental health care practices for adolescents living in rural areas should be discussed to meet psychosocial demands and to overcome socioeconomic and cultural barriers to access and comply with public promotion policies of mental health.
