Abstract

Objective: Analyze the epidemiological profile of ophidism in Porto Nacional–TO from 2017 to 2022. Methods: Study with an epidemiological, cross-sectional, retrospective, analytical, and quantitative approach, consisting of data obtained through the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) and subjected to descriptive statistical analyses. Results: Between the years 2017 and 2022, 182 cases of ophidic accidents were reported in the municipality of Porto Nacional – TO. The peak of notifications occurred in the year 2019, with 38 reported cases (20.87%). The majority of accidents were caused by snakes of the genus Bothrops, with 166 registered accidents (91.2%). Males were the most affected, with a total of 79.67% of notifications, with 66.48% of the victims in the age range between 20 and 60 years. Regarding the most affected anatomical region, the foot was the site with the highest number of accidents, totaling about 73% of cases. Conclusion: Ophidic accidents are more common in young men and tend to be more severe at the end of the year, a period in which more accidents occur with offspring that, being younger, are unable to control the amount of inoculated venom.
