Abstract

Objective: To describe the prevalence, clinicopathological characteristics and sociodemographic profile of patients with laryngeal cancer treated in a radiotherapy service. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out in a hospital in Pernambuco, a reference in radiotherapy treatment in the municipalities of the fourth regional health management, with the time frame from 2010 to 2020, the data were selected from medical records of patients diagnosed with laryngeal cancer and then collected information regarding tumor characteristics and sociodemographic variables Results: 194 medical records of patients diagnosed with laryngeal cancer were analyzed. The majority were male, with an average age of 64, brown, married, with incomplete primary education and farmers. The highest percentage was glottic tumors, consistent with the higher number of patients with vocal impairment, there was a higher number of diagnoses of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and patients from the Unified Health System (SUS), with regard to the proportion of cure of this neoplasm, the data represented a percentage of 22.2%. Final considerations: It is important to know the epidemiology and characteristics of laryngeal cancer. Through this, specific actions can be taken to minimize the incidence of this type of cancer.
