Abstract

Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence on the multidisciplinary approach to the selection and proper insertion of the IUD during the puerperium. Methods: This is an integrative review carried out between December 2023 and January 2024 in the databases LILACS, via BVS; MEDLINE/PubMed; CINAHL; EMBASE and Web of Science. The PICo strategy systematized the construction of the guiding question: how does the multidisciplinary approach to the selection and proper insertion of the IUD during the puerperium take place? The search was carried out using a combination of controlled and non-controlled descriptors crossed using the Boolean operators OR and AND. Studies were screened using Rayyan software. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria and reading the full text, eight articles were selected to make up the study sample. Results: Doctors, nurses and midwives were identified as members of the multi-professional team working on the selection and insertion of IUDs in the puerperium. The multidisciplinary approach was proposed through team meetings and the construction of contraceptive plans, based on institutionalized guidelines and multiprofessional training. Final considerations: The multidisciplinary approach to IUD insertion in the postpartum period facilitates access to the method, guaranteeing safe and long-lasting contraception.
