Abstract

Objective: To analyze the influence of physical activity on the mental health of individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bibliographic review: The year 2020 was marked by the emergence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, generating various harmful impacts on physical and mental health, as well as causing negative socio-economic developments. Social isolation was instituted to contain the spread of the disease, contributing to the onset and/or aggravation of mental disorders, such as anxiety and depression. Regular physical activity has been demonstrated over time as an important strategy for preventing numerous diseases. Likewise, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it possibly played a protective role in physical and mental health. Final considerations: Physical activity is extremely important for preventing, maintaining, improving physical and mental health; additionally, factors such as: intensity and frequency of exercises, gender, age, adherence to social isolation, self-perception of stress and well-being, can have an influence on mental health outcomes.
