Abstract

Objective: To identify the challenges of breastfeeding for women diagnosed with breast malignancy. Methods: The conduct of this study followed the precepts of an Integrative Literature Review (RIL). The bibliographic survey was carried out in databases indexed to the Virtual Health Library (VHL) such as: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Nursing Database (BDENF) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) with a total of 6 studies used. Results: Six scientific articles were used and a wide range of challenges faced by women with breast cancer when seeking to breastfeed were found. Decreased milk production due to aggressive treatments, physical complications after surgery and the emotional complexities linked to the diagnosis emerge as recurring themes. Final considerations: The review of the challenges of breastfeeding for women diagnosed with breast malignancy reveals a significant gap in knowledge and care provided to this specific group of patients. The studies reviewed highlight the complexity of issues faced by women who wish to breastfeed after a breast cancer diagnosis, including concerns about the baby's safety, the effects of treatment on the lactation process, and the conflicting emotions related to motherhood and illness.
