Abstract
Objective: To evaluate neuropsychomotor development milestones (NPDM) and signs of risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children aged 12 to 72 months living in a medium-sized municipality in the interior of the State of São Paulo. Methods: This is a cross-sectional survey study. An electronic form was made available to parents or guardians containing sociodemographic questions, NPDM milestones and the M-CHAT questionnaire between January and July 2022. Results: 49 questionnaires were received with a predominance of males (59%), in the age group 12 to 24 months (40.8%), white (59.2%), without suspected neurological symptoms (67.3%), with high school attendance (81%), with suspected delay in language and behavior in 36.7% and 16.3%, respectively. According to the DNPM milestones, 42.9% had adequate development and 57.1% had some failure, being the personal-social milestones (53.5%), fine-adaptive motor skills (50%) and language (42.8%) the most prevalent. The presence of signs of risk for autism was observed in 40% of children between 16 and 30 months. Conclusion: Compared to previous Brazilian cohorts, an increase in the number of failures to acquire DNPM milestones was found after school reopening during the COVID-19 pandemic.
