Abstract
Objective: To review scientific literature at the national level looking for barriers and potential for the regionalization of mental health care. Methods: This is an integrative review carried out in the first week of April 2024 in the Scientific Electronic Library Online, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences and Virtual Health Library databases, through the combination with Boolean operators of controlled descriptors: Mental health services; Mental health assistance; Regional Health Planning. Results: the articles analyzed pointed out that the stagnation in the implementation of services that make up the network, the chronic underfunding of the health sector and, in particular, mental health, constitute barriers to the regionalization of mental health care, and the municipalist view that a service operates alone, separated and disjointed from its health region or other services. Matrix support is highlighted as a possible tool for overcoming problems. Final considerations: The study made it possible to debate these barriers, dissecting them, to help face difficulties and think of solutions or ways to overcome problems, in addition to indicating ways to aim again at expanding the Psychosocial Care Network.
