Abstract

Objective: To identify in the scientific literature the performance of obstetric nurses related to shoulder dystocia. Methods: This is an integrative review developed from the elaboration of the review question, search and selection of studies, data extraction, critical evaluation, synthesis of results and presentation of the method. Results: The search was carried out on the research platforms: Virtual Health Library (VHL), PubMed of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Cochrane Library, being found, respectively, 21, 35 and 9 studies, from the selected search strategies, without temporal clipping. Eight articles made up the final sample. Final considerations: The nurse works in the recognition of risk factors for shoulder dystocia, in the identification and communication of the team, in the assistance to childbirth and birth with shoulder dystocia, as well as in the care of the puerperal woman and the newborn after shoulder dystocia and also in the management and/or updating of their technical and scientific knowledge about childbirth and birth assistance with shoulder dystocia.
