Abstract

Objective: Discuss the clinical challenges of managing lisdexamfetamine dimesylate for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Methods: This is an integrative literature review of a retrospective and documentary nature. The following steps were taken to construct it: 1) Construction of the theme and guiding question; 2) Establishment of inclusion and exclusion criteria; 3) Collection of studies; 4) Evaluation of abstracts; 5) Evaluation and categorization of the studies in full; 6) Analysis and interpretation of the results. Results: After thorough investigation, 14 studies were obtained. In general, the analyzed articles converge on the notion that managing patients diagnosed with ADHD with lisdexamfetamine is a complex task, as it involves the observation of various factors. The most frequently cited challenges in the literature were side effects at 60%, followed by efficacy at 20%, difficulties with dosage and drug intervals at 10%, and drug interactions at 10%. Final considerations: These challenges imply the need for healthcare professionals to be equipped to assess the impact of the medication on the patient. Furthermore, there is a need for more studies on the subject.
