Abstract
Objective: Identify the frequency of erythrocyte phenotypes for the ABO, Rh, Kell, Duffy, Kidd, Lewis, MNS and Lutheran systems obtained from blood donors in the state of Goiás. Methods: This is a retrospective, observational, cross-sectional and quantitative study that was carried out with the available data from blood donors registered at the Hemocentro de Goiás - HEMOGO, between the years 2019 and 2022 and who had their blood phenotyped totally or partially for the proposed systems. Results: There was a prevalence of the phenotypes "O" and "A" of the ABO system, Rh positive of the Rh system, "k" and "Kpb" of the Kell system, “Fyb”of the Duffy system, “Jka” of the Kidd system, “Leb” of the Lewis system, "N" of the MNS system and “LUb” of the Lutheran system. Conclusion: It highlights the importance of erythrocyte phenotyping to prevent alloimmunization in patients undergoing multiple transfusions, as well as the relevance of investigating the characteristics of red blood cells in different populations. The scarcity of studies in this field underscores the uniqueness of this pioneering study in Goiás, indicating the need for further research to expand knowledge about the various types of erythrocyte phenotypes and their implications for preventing transfusion incompatibilities.
