Abstract

Objective: To synthesize, based on evidence, the epidemiological surveillance of paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) in Brazil. Methods: Integrative literature review, which aimed to find studies focused on the surveillance of paracoccidioidomycosis in Brazil. Developed according to PRISMA-ScR recommendations. The guiding question was: how does the epidemiological monitoring of PCM occur in Brazil in an attempt to corroborate more accurate measures to control the disease? Studies indexed in the Virtual Health Library were selected, in the databases: LILACS and MEDLINE and in SCIELO, using the Health Sciences Descriptors: “Epidem$”, “Paracoccidioidomycose”, “Paracoccidioidomycosis” and “Brazil”. The search took place in December 2023 and included original studies from 2013 onwards. Results: Of the 298 publications found, 13 studies were chosen for analysis. Most of the studies are from the southeast region and the authors are doctors and biologists. The research revealed that compulsory notification presents an effective benefit for the epidemiological surveillance of PCM. Final considerations: Epidemiological surveillance of paracoccidioidomycosis in Brazil is fragmented, due to the non-compulsory nature of reporting. In the states where it occurs, a similarity was observed in the mapping of the most affected regions and the profile of the populations, and also training of teams, qualifying them to identify manifestations and early diagnosis.
