Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the balance and lower limb strength of athletes practicing football for cerebral palsy (CP), with the goal of distinguishing physical performance among different degrees of impairment. Methods: Data were collected from 13 male athletes, aged 18 to 27 years, divided into groups according to the degree of impairment: Mild Impairment (FT3), Moderate (FT2), and Severe (FT1). The groups underwent physical tests of horizontal jump, vertical jump, and the Berg Balance Scale. Results: FT3 athletes performed better in vertical jump tests (average of 47.0 cm) and horizontal jump tests (average of 190 cm) compared to FT2 and FT1 athletes. There were no significant differences in the Berg Balance Scale between functional categories. These findings suggest that lower limb explosive strength is greater in athletes with a lower degree of motor impairment. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that jump tests are effective tools for assessing lower limb strength in CP football athletes, highlighting significant differences between functional categories. Future studies should include larger samples and other variables that impact functional performance.
