Abstract

Objective: To build and validate an "Infection Prevention and Control Assessment Tool for Primary Health Care". Methods: Methodological research, developed in phases: 1) Exploratory, through documentary analysis to understand the minimum requirements regarding the prevention and control of infections in Primary Health Care; 2) Construction of the technology, which comprised the structure and response pattern of the instrument; 3) Content validation, through the analysis of specialists in the subject and the calculation of the Content Validity Coefficient. Results: Seventeen experts from the five Brazilian geographic regions validated it and values were obtained that reveal broad acceptance: 0.88 (clarity), 0.90 (pertinence), 0.91 (relevance) and 0.90 (total). Thus, the instrument constructed and validated contains eight essential components and 120 minimum requirements/structured questions. Conclusion: The instrument has the potential for national replicability and its results could support managers and health professionals in developing national and local Infection Prevention and Control Programs, strengthening existing measures and directing new strategies.
