Abstract

Objective: To systematize the knowledge on Complementary feeding and its influence on infants over six months old and under two years old in Brazil. Methods: An integrative literature review, conducted on SciELO, MEDLINE, LILACS, and CINAHL databases, between January 2001 and December 2021. The research was conducted using the keywords “Complementary Feeding”, “Infant Nutrition” and “Nursing” with the use of the boolean operator “AND”. The study sample consisted of 22 articles. Results: The results indicated that the most frequently foods offered to children were in-natura foods or ultra-processed foods. Thus, it was found that the food supply does not comply with what is recommended the Ministry of Health, with an early introduction of non-recommended foods, resulting in the exposure of infants to situations of risk and food insecurity. Final considerations: The present study listed the main information regarding the introduction of complementary feeding in Brazil. It is important to carry out new research aimed at less-viewed Brazilian regions, such as the North Region, and to readjust existing food education policies to promote adequate food development.
